This craft will have you saying “Giddiup, puppet!” or have you imagining rainbows, depending on how you decorate. This craft is much more intense than we normally post about, but it’s really fun once you’re done! We suggest painting BEFORE assembling the puppet, learn from our mistakes, people.

What You Need:

  • Paper Towel Rolls
  • String
  • Popsicle Sticks
  • Scissors
  • Hole Puncher
  • Construction Paper
  • Pasta
  • Paint
  • Paint Brushes
  • Cup of Water
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Marker
  • Various decorations of your horse (We had glitter paper for the heart on the butt!) ?

To Begin:

puppet steps
  1. Cut the paper towel roll 1/3 off to create the head and body of your puppet.
  2. We HIGHLY suggest if you want to paint the pieces of the puppet to do it before putting the puppet together.
  3. Put 4 holes in the “body” as shown in the first picture for the legs. Tie the string off on the end with the pasta feet and attach to the body with a knot. To make it more secure, use the hot glue gun on the knots.
  4. Now to make the puppet handle. Take two popsicle sticks, make an “X” and tie string around them. Use the hot glue gun to secure the knot.
  5. Next, put two holes in the head of the base for the mane. Make sure the string is long so it can be connected to the handle.
  6. Once that is done, put three holes on the top of the body, two on the behind for the string for the handle and the tail, the one on the front for the neck. Shown in picture three, connect the head to the neck and the bottom to the handle.
  7. Now to make the mane, tie the pasta in knots like shown in picture four. Attach the mane to the back of the head using the hot glue gun.
  8. Last but not least, it’s time to make the tail! You can choose how short or long you want your tail to be. Attach to the back and you’re done!
