Father’s Day Photo Magnets

Father's Day Photo Magnets
Father’s Day Photo Magnets

Mother’s Day was just this past week, but aren’t you already thinking about Father’s Day?! If you remember, our craft for Mother’s Day entailed turning a mason jar into a photo vase. (You can view that tutorial at https://www.mycorwin.com/mothers-day-photo-vase/ ) We hope you held onto your mason jar lid – you’re going to need it for this craft!

You will need:

  • Mason Jar Lid (2 pieces)
  • Photo of you and Dad
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Super Glue
  • E6000
  • Magnet (available at Walmart)

To Begin:

  1. Print out an image of you and your Dad together – you may have to adjust the size so that it’s small enough to fit within the diameter of the mason jar lid.
  2. Once you have the right size photo, lay your mason jar lid on top of the part of the image you wish to cut out. Holding it down with one hand, use a pencil to trace around the lid with the other.
  3. You should be left with a circle surrounding you and your Dad. Using your scissors, cut out the circle you just drew.
  4. Place the photo aside. Next, use super glue to attach the two pieces of the mason jar together so that they don’t come apart. Squeeze together and allow time to dry.
  5. Next, add a few drops of super glue to the inside of your mason jar lid. Align and place your photo inside.
  6. Flip over your mason jar lid, using a small amount of E6000 (an industrial strength glue) attach a magnet to the center of your lid.
  7. Allow time to dry.
  8. Attach to your fridge or gift to that special father figure in your life!

Flag Day Windcatchers

Flag day is coming up this June 14th! Don’t miss out on our craft of the week – start collecting your supplies now! To celebrate Flag Day we created our very own windcatcher! Hang these babies outside and watch ‘em dance!

DIY Flag Day Windcatcher

You will need:

  • Red, White or Blue Construction Paper
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Adhesive foam stars
  • Red, White and Blue Ribbon
  • Hole Punch

To Begin:

  1. First, take your sheet of colored construction paper long ways and trim a strip of paper about 2 inches from the top. Set this strip aside.
  2. As shown in the video, take the larger piece of construction paper and roll it to make a cylinder – both ends should be touching. Secure with a piece of tape.
  3. Whip out the 2-inch strip you cut earlier and add a piece of tape to either end. Attach one side to the top of your cylinder and the other end directly across from it – this should form a handle.
  4. Next, using your hole punch, punch holes along the bottom about 2 inches apart from each other.
  5. Using your scissors and a ruler, measure and cut your red, white and blue ribbon into 12-inch strips. You want to have roughly the same amount, but enough to fit into the holes you just punched.
  6. Thread the ribbon through a hole, tie a knot in the middle and let the tails hang.
  7. Repeat step 6 while alternating ribbon colors to fill all of the holes punched.
  8. Finally, add adhesive foam stars, glitter or even sequins to decorate your wind catcher.
  9. Hang and enjoy!

World Ocean’s Day Sensory Bottles

It’s DIY Friday! This week we’ll be following a super cute, easy and satisfying tutorial on how to make your very own Sensory Water Bottle! World Ocean’s Day is rounding the corner and what cuter way to celebrate than by creating our very own ocean-in-a-bottle!

Sensory Water Bottle Tutorial

You Will Need:

  • Water bottle with lid
  • Glitter Glue
  • Glitter
  • Sequins
  • Adhesive Foam Stars
  • Water
  • Food Coloring
  • Stirring Stick

To Begin:

  1. Start with a clean, plastic water bottle with a screw-on lid.
  2. We’ve experimented with all types of glue, but glitter glue gives the best result. Squeeze a whole bottle of glitter glue into your bottle.
  3. Top it off with any type of water – we had boxed water on hand.
  4. Add as much and however many colors or textures of glitter you want.
  5. Add sequins if you wish.
  6. Add a drop of whatever color food coloring you like (preferably the same color as the glitter glue.) We used teal. Try not to add too much, otherwise, you won’t be able to see what’s happening in your bottle.
  7. Add floating objects of your choice. We took adhesive foam stars, stuck them back-to-back, then put them in our bottle.
  8. Once everything has been added, seal your bottle tightly with the lid and shake vigorously.
  9. When you are happy with your sensory water bottle, you can glue the lid shut.
  10. Shake and enjoy!

Memorial Day Clothespin Wreath

Memorial Day Clothespin Wreath
Memorial Day Clothespin Wreath

Memorial Day is rounding the corner, and this year we wanted to make something special in honor of those who have fought and fallen for our country. A Clothespin Wreath! This DIY is so cheap you can get everything you need from the Dollar Store! Not to mention – it’s super cute!! Who knew clothespins could be so trendy!

You Will Need:

  • About 100 clothespins
  • A wire wreath (available at the dollar store)
  • Red, White and Blue paints
  • Paint Brushes
  • Adhesive Foam Stars
  • Command Hook and Strip

To Begin:

  1. Begin by clipping the clothespins to the wire wreath. We alternated clipping ours to the first then second wire.
  2. Fill the entire wreath with clothespins.
  3. Using a pencil, mark on your wreath which clothespins will be what color. R=Red W=White B=Blue
  4. Starting at the top of our wreath and working clockwise, we created a pattern of 4 reds and 4 whites.
  5. We continued this pattern about ¾ of the way. The last quarter of leftover clothespins should be marked blue.
  6. Once marked, remove your clothespins. With a few helping hands, paint each clothespin its respected color. Get creative! Add glitter or even write a soldier’s name on one of the pins to add a personal touch
  7. .Once the clothespins are painted and have been allowed time to dry, we can start clipping them back on!
  8. In the same pattern we started with, clip the clothespins to the wreath starting at the top and working clockwise.
  9. Again, the pattern should be 4 red, 4 white repeating. Once you are ¾ of the way done, the rest should be blue.
  10. Using the foam adhesive stars, remove the peel from the back and adhere to the blue side of your wreath.
  11. Using a command hook hang your Memorial Day Clothespin Wreath wherever you’d like!

Armed Forces Day – Tie-Dye Shirts

Red, White and Blue Tie-Dye Shirt
Red, White and Blue Tie-Dye Shirt

It’s DIY Friday! Let’s join forces to create an army of tie-dye for Armed Forces Day! Did you know before President Harry S. Truman declared Armed Forces Day, each branch in the military had their own special day? Now the annual celebration commemorates all branches of the military at once! Here’s to all of our brave soldiers in every branch – Thank you for all that you do!

You Will Need:

  • A white cotton t-shirt
  • Rubber Bands
  • Blue & Red Tie Dye Mixture with Bottles (Accessible at Walmart or Michael’s)
  • Gloves
  • Two Plastic Bags
  • Container

To Begin:

1. Start with a clean white, cotton t-shirt (other fabrics have a hard time holding color). Lay your t-shirt out as wrinkle-free as possible.

2. Starting on one side of your t-shirt, under the armpit, begin to fold your t-shirt in 1-inch sections back and forth to look like an accordion.

3. Once you reach the other side of the t-shirt and the bottom half of your shirt is scrunched up, grab a rubber band and tie it around your shirt. Do this with as many rubber bands as needed to maintain its accordion shape.

4. You should be left with a tuft of fabric including the sleeves and collar. Take the fabric and ball it up. Wrap a few rubber bands around this part to keep its shape. You should be left with something like this:

White Cotton T-Shirt Before Tie-Dye

5. Now that we’re all prepped, we can get to tie-dying! For these next couple of steps, you’re going to want to work outside.

6. Using the instructions on the tie-dye box, mix your dye.

7. On the accordion side of your t-shirt apply a liberal amount of red dye. Be careful not to get any on the top half of your shirt. We held the shirt over a paper bowl, squeezed dye onto the shirt. The bowl helped to catch any extra dye not absorbed.

8. Once the accordion is coated, take a plastic bag and tie it around that part of the shirt to keep it from touching anything.

9. On the top half of your shirt liberally cover it with blue dye.

10. Like the bottom half, tie a plastic bag over the top half of your shirt.

11. Place in a container to soak overnight.

12. When the shirt is dry, remove it from the bags and cut the rubber bands.

13. When you open it up you should be left with stars and stripes!

14. Wash your shirt in cold water and you’re ready for Armed Forces Day!

Mother’s Day Photo Vase

Mother's Day Photo Vase Supplies
Mother’s Day Photo Vase Supplies

Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate all Moms all across the world. From new mothers to the most experienced of mothers, the bond a mother has with her child is certainly special. If there’s any way to cherish mom, it’s to always remember her – even after Mother’s Day! This DIY Friday, we will be making a memorable photo vase in honor of Mom. Use it to decorate or even gift to that special Mom in your life! Happy Mother’s Day!

You will need

  • Mason Jar
  • Vinyl/Sticker
  • Photo of you and your Mom
  • Floral Foam
  • Fake Flowers
  • Paint
  • Paint Brushes
  • Scotch Tape

To Begin

  1. Begin by placing your vinyl sticker on the outside of your mason jar. Preferably use a square or circle sticker. The size of your sticker will determine the size of your photo frame.
  2. Choose yours or your mom’s favorite color(s) to paint the outside of the mason jar however you choose. Make sure to paint over the sticker and cover all of the edges!
  3. Allow time for this to dry.
  4. Using your floral foam, cut it to fit into the mouth of the mason jar. Push it to the bottom – we will use this to stick our flowers into to keep them from moving around.
  5. After your jar has dried, peel back the sticker or vinyl to reveal a small window. This window will be your photo frame!
  6. Print and cut out your photo to fit the vase window. Using a small piece of tape, tape your photo to the inside of your mason jar with the image facing out.
  7. Using plastic flowers, cut and arrange however you like. But you don’t necessarily have to stop at plastic – re-pot a real plant to your mason jar to liven up your Photo Vase.
  8. Enjoy your Mother’s Day Mason Jar Memories!

  • Wrapped candy of your choice
  • Colorful tissue paper
  • Glue or spray adhesive
  • Hole Punch
  • String
  • Scissors
  • Confetti or paper shreds

To Begin

4. Tie off the string – this is to hang your piñata!

5. On the other end of your tube, fill with candy and confetti!

6. Pinch off the other end and press down the flaps so that your candy and confetti are sealed inside. If done properly, your piñata guts shouldn’t fall out!

7. Time to decorate your piñata! We decided to use colorful tissue paper from the dollar store to dress up our piñata, but you can use anything you’d like – glitter, paint, rhinestones, etc.

Arbor Day Recycled Planters

Arbor Day Recycled Planters
Arbor Day Recycled Planters

Arbor Day is a holiday that encourages everyone to get out and plant trees! Trees provide the very necessities of life itself – they clean our air, protect our drinking water and create healthy communities. There are plenty of ways to take action – you can donate to a reputable organization like arborday.org to plant trees for you, or you can participate in this fun DIY activity featuring our Recycled Planters!

You Will Need:

  • A clean and empty tin can
  • Soil
  • Plant or seeds (we chose a pothos)
  • White Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Black Marker
  • Scissors
  • White Sheet of Foam
  • Pink Felt
  • Googly Eyes
  • Cotton Ball
  • Glue
  • Two Popsicle Sticks

To Begin:

  1. Fill your tin can with soil, then, using your hands, make a hole to place your plant or seeds into. If you don’t have a tin can, a water bottle cut in half works just as well! Water your plant and bring inside for some decorating!
  2. You can decorate your recycled planter however you’d like – use paints, glitter, sequins, stickers and whatever else your heart desires. We’ve decided to turn them into adorable bunnies!
  3. To create our Recycled Bunny Planters, first, paint your planter white. Allow time to dry between coats.
  4. While we’re waiting for our planters to dry we can work on making the ears. Begin by folding your sheet of white foam in half. Next, draw a single bunny ear on the foam using your black marker. Using your scissors, cut along the line you drew on the folded sheet of foam to create two identical bunny ears.
  5. Repeat step 4 with the pink felt. Remember to make these smaller – they will lay on top of the white pieces you just cut out.
  6. Next, glue down the pink pieces of felt on top of the white pieces of foam. You should have what looks to be two bunny ears.
  7. Glue each ear down onto a popsicle stick. Determine the front of your planter and stick each stick into the soil to look like bunny ears!
  8. Whip out your googly eyes – using a small dab of glue, glue them on the front of your planter.
  9. With your pink felt, cut out a small triangle. Glue upside down under your eyes to create the nose for your bunny.
  10. On the back of your planter, glue down the cotton ball to make your bunny’s tail.
  11. Finally, draw a lowercase “w” under the pink nose to create the mouth.
