Thankful Turkeys

Thankful Turkeys Craft

We love these Thankful Turkeys for a cute and cheap Thanksgiving craft. This craft really allows for you to get creative and try new things. 🦃

What You’ll Need:

Thankful Turkeys Supplies
Supplies needed for Thankful Turkeys.
  • Multi-colored Construction Paper
  • Toilet Paper Rolls (We suggest saving rolls throughout the month. There’s so many crafts you can do with the rolls! A creative and excellent way to be thrifty.)
  • Scissors
  • Markers
  • Glue Stick or Tape
Thankful Turkeys feathers
April, our Design Manager, was over the glue sticks and used tape to put her feathers together. She cut slits into the top and slid the feathers in, instead of attaching them to the back via a glue stick. We love the creativity. 💖

Directions:

  1. Start by cleaning your roll off. Bits of leftover paper can easily be removed by peeling it off with your fingers.
  2. Decide if you would like to wrap your roll with paper or keep the roll clean.
  3. Next, decorate your main body turkey. Here’s a chance to be creative! If you so choose, add wings, turkey face and legs!
  4. Next, cut out your tail feathers. They can be as big or as small as you choose. If you decide to write what you’re thankful for on the feathers, we suggest larger so you have more room to write. Write your reasons to be thankful before attaching the tail feathers to the main body.
  5. Now, attach the tail feathers together using a glue stick or tape. You have two options to attach your tail feathers. The first option is shown in the image above. Cut a small slit at the top on the roll so you are able to slide the feathers in. The other option is to attach the feathers to the back.

You’re ready to show off your Thankful Turkey!

Your Thankful Turkey is done! Check out ours below for inspiration, because everyone needs a dose of creativity before getting started. Are you at an Assisted Living or Memory Care facility? Make a demo beforehand so you can help step by step. 💖

Happy November, everyone! 🦃 We have some cute November puzzles for you and your community we wanted to share.

Are you not turkey’s biggest fan or are you having a smaller meal this year? We totally get it. We were reading up on smaller, turkey-less main dishes and our mouth is watering. Especially for those that have small kitchens, some of these recipes are perfect! Here at Corwin, we will do our employee Thanksgiving potluck and we could honestly skip the main course and munch on the sides. 😆

As with everything this year – holidays look vastly different. We hope these November puzzles find you well and happy. May you find things to be thankful for and a brighter outlook for the future. Cute but Spooky 👻

Cute but spooky – that has been our theme here at Corwin for Halloween. We are just not into scary as much as we normally are after the year we have had. Granted, we say this, and one of our theme days at the office is “Classic Horror Movies.” 😂

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a good scare or catching your favorite horror flick. A study published in the Journal of Media Psychology found that people watch scary movies for three main reasons: tension, relevance and unrealism. Others who are drawn to it due to “relevance” find elements in the movie that they can relate to. Those who like horror due to its “unrealism” enjoy it because they know for a fact that it’s all fake anyway. For them (read half of the Corwin staff as well), it’s just pure entertainment. For the “tension,” it can be about releasing the fear after the scare. That rush of adrenaline without having to do anything strenuous can be fun!

Has your community been embracing the season of fear or are you feeling the cute but spooky vibe? Let us know in the comments!

Gratitude During a Pandemic

World Gratitude Day "Keep the good vibes going" Turtles
Be on the look out in your mail for our gratitude mail outs. 💖

Every year on September 21st we celebrate World Gratitude Day. Here at Corwin, we think it’s a perfect day to reflect on what we are grateful for and spread the love to our coworkers and clients. With our current climate, we have found that the negative bombardment has us being intentionally positive. You may be wondering, “How can I celebrate World Gratitude day with my community?” Well, don’t you worry, dear reader, we have you covered!

Three Ideas to Celebrate World Gratitude Day

  1. Self-reflection: Why not write down what you are grateful for? If you’re feeling stuck or suffering from a bit of writer’s block, we have free downloadable templates below to help spark your gratefulness.
  2. Share your gratitude with others: Gratitude is best when shared! We know it’s hard to get together now – but if you’re able to socially distance – check out our Gratitude Game. It’s a great way to get to know each other and yourself.
  3. Keep the good vibes going: For every new customer that shares/emails/tags a photo with us of your community celebrating World Gratitude Day with our printouts, we will offer an annual membership for free!

Kazoos! 🎼

Toilet Paper Kazoos

What’s a great way to repurpose toilet paper rolls after all the binge buying? Homemade Kazoos! Here at Corwin, we have a bin for recycling our paper towel and toilet paper rolls so nothing goes to waste. Ready to make some music? 🎼

Kazoo Supplies

You will need:

  • Toilet Paper Rolls
  • Rubber Bands
  • Wax Paper
  • Toothpicks (or something sharp)
  • Markers or Paint (We also colored some Corwin coloring sheets, that you can find for free here, and taped it onto the roll for decoration.)

Kazoo Beginning

To Begin:

Kazoos
Final craft!
  1. Gather your rubber band, wax paper, markers or paint and toilet paper roll for some kazoo fun.
  2. Decorate your roll how you wish. Some of us colored a coloring sheet and wrapped it around the roll instead of free painting.
  3. Next, cut the wax paper small enough to fit over the opening of one end of the roll.
  4. Fold the wax paper over and secure with the rubber band. (Shown in the image to the right.)
  5. Finally, poke holes in the paper with toothpicks so you can have that classic kazoo sound! 🎤

We recorded ourselves playing a cannon rendition of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” for your viewing pleasure. We hope the video sparks creativity with you and your community! 😂

“Bee” Kind to Honey Bees

Honey bee with pollen sacks entering a flower for nectar
Bee full of pollen flying to pink cherry blossoms.

An integral component to the growth and survival of plant life is the honey bee. Many people think this insect only plays a role in the lifecycle of flowers, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. They are the global pollinators of vegetables and fruits, too. The honey bees’ work enables plants to thrive as they facilitate the pollen exchange between female and male plant parts, resulting in seed and fruit production. Without bees, sustainable agriculture would be exceptionally difficult. Insect pollination is required for reproduction in roughly 80 percent of flowering plants, and bees are key to the existence of flowering plants. In actuality, flowering plants would cease to exist if bees no longer existed.

Honey Bee Comb

Keep that in mind when August 15th approaches, which is National Honey Bee Day. Nature lovers, beekeepers and more unite nationwide to encourage education and understanding of bees, beekeeping and the insect’s function in nature. Worker honey bees are busy little creatures, making honey and beeswax while simultaneously aiding in regular plant reproduction. Consider how much they accomplish during their short life span, which ranges from six weeks to five months on average. How impressive is that? In addition, in certain ecosystems, bees are the primary pollinators and the only reason that some species of plants are even alive. Such is the case in savanna woodlands and tropical forests, for example, among many others. It is easy to see why protecting honey bees is vital to maintaining a healthy and diverse ecosystem.

Did you know that one of Corwin’s own is a beekeeper? Jodie Jones, our Director of Marketing, says,

“You don’t have to keep bees in order to save the bees. Researching native bee-friendly plants to have around your home and avoiding pesticides are simple steps for a better world. Weeds are a bee’s best friend, so let ’em grow, y’all!” 🌸

Let’s totally just stab Caesar!

We should totally just stab caesar gif from Mean Girls movie.
One of our favorite scenes from the movie Mean Girls. 😂

Hello August! We are so happy that we are just one month closer to summer being over. The heat has been a little unbearable here in Tampa (and as thankful as we are for a calm hurricane season) we are ready for a reprieve. Granted, our summer isn’t over until October… but we like to dream! 🌴

Did you know who July and August are named after?

We didn’t; well, at least not with 100% certainty. July was named after Julius Caesar – you know – the “Et tu, Brutus?” one.🔪 August was named after Rome’s Emperor Augustus. (Julius Caesar was Augustus’ Great-Uncle.) So as much as July has dragged on, we are thankful to wave goodbye and greet August! 👋
