Tissue Paper Flowers

Learn to make these tissue paper flowers with your residents!

You Will Need:

  • Tissue Paper (Assorted Colors)
  • Stapler
  • Scissors
  • Skewers
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Vase

To Begin:

  1. Start with a single sheet of tissue paper. Cut this sheet of paper into at least 4 sections of equal length and width.
  2. Neatly stack your small sheets of tissue paper one on top of the other.
  3. Fold the shortest side about an inch to two inches in. Accordion fold the tissue paper.
  4. Depending on how large you want your flower you can either cut the paper in half (as shown in the video), leave it as-is, or trim it to make it the perfect size.
  5. Once your accordion paper is the perfect length, you’ll want to staple it in the middle.
  6. Using your scissors, round the edges of the paper, make them pointy, or even shred the ends. (example below)

7. Begin separating the sheets of tissue paper and ruffling up the petals of your flower.

8. Next, grab a skewer. Using your hot glue gun, add a dab of glue to the sharp end. Stick this end at the bottom of your flower. (I also recommend using green plant tape to wrap around the skewer to make it look like an actual stem.)

9. With your vase handy, fill with flowers! If your vase is transparent try adding rocks, marbles, or even a brown paper bag to hide the stems.

10. You’re Finished! Decorate your countertops with vases of flowers from your residents!

Rainbow Magnets

You Will Need:

  • Pipe Cleaners in every color
  • Cotton Balls
  • White Foam Sheet
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Magnets
  • Scissors

To Begin:

  1. Start by cutting out two circles from your white foam sheet. You can do this by folding your foam sheet in half, tracing and cutting out a circle.
  2. Layout your pipe cleaners in order from red, to orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. Add a line of hot glue to one of your foam circles, and lay your pipe cleaners in the glue. Allow a few seconds to dry.
  3. Next, curve your pipe cleaners to make an upside-down U-shape.
  4. Trim any excess pipe cleaners with your scissors.
  5. Add another line of glue to the other foam circle and lay the other end of the pipe cleaners in it. Allow a few seconds to dry.
  6. Next, add dots of glue all over the foam circles – cover in cotton balls.
  7. Flip your rainbow over. Add a dot of glue in the center of the foam circles and press a magnet in the center of each circle. Allow time to dry completely.
  8. Hang your rainbow on any magnetic surface!

Leprechaun Hats

Learn how to make Leprechaun Hats out of food storage containers!

You Will Need:

  • Small, round plastic container with lid
  • Green Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Black Ribbon
  • Yellow Construction Paper
  • Scissors
  • Something to fill your hat with (skittles, gold coins, etc.)
  • Hot Glue Gun

To Begin:

  1. With your small, round plastic container in front of you, paint the outside green.
  2. Once dry, wrap the black ribbon around the base of your container. Cut the ribbon where the two ends meet.
  3. With your hot glue gun handy, add a dab of glue to the base of your container. Place one end of the ribbon in the glue, wrap the ribbon around the container, then secure it by adding another dab of glue to the other end.
  4. Next, we’ll make the buckle – cut a small half-inch by half-inch square from your yellow construction paper. Then carefully cut a square out of the center of the paper.
  5. Add another dab of glue to the ribbon for the buckle to attach to.
  6. Once dry, add your goodies inside and you’re done!
