Resident Mummies

Resident Mummies
Resident Mummies!

Halloween is only a few weeks away! Get ready for this hilarious, interactive craft to include all of your residents in – Resident Mummies! Every-mummy will want to participate!

You Will Need:

  • Black Construction Paper
  • Scissors
  • Headshots of Residents
  • Glue Stick
  • White Packing Tape
  • Mummy Stencil
  • Pencil
  1. Begin by snapping photos of all of your residents; you’ll want a nice, clear headshot of everyone participating.
  2. Next, you’ll want to upload these to the computer and print them out to a reasonable size. You may have to play around with the “scale” option to scale your image down to an appropriate size. Use your best judgment.

Next, you’ll want to download and print the “Mummy Stencil” Printable below.

Mummy Stencil

4. After you’ve printed your printable, you’ll want to cut it out. Lay it on top of a stack of black construction paper (as many pieces of paper as residents participating), and trace the stencil with your pencil.

5. With your stack in hand and your traced piece of paper on top, begin cutting them out with your scissors.

6. Give each of your residents a black mummy cutout and their corresponding photo of themselves. Have them cut their head out and glue it to the mummy with a glue stick.

7. With your packing tape, cut off 3, 6-inch strips, then cut those down the middle to give you 6 thin 6-inch strips. Do this for each resident.

8. Allow your residents to tape their mummy as they please. Trim or fold back any excess tape.

Hang your Mummy to scare away the monsters!

Race Car Craft πŸš—πŸ’¨

Toilet Paper Roll Race Car Craft
β€œBoogity, boogity, boogity – let’s go racing, boys!” – Darrell Waltrip

It’s time to let your competitive side fly with this race car craft! Did we try to race these in the streets of Ybor? Maybe. (Yes.) We found that our wheels weren’t as round as they ought to be. 😜

Supplies:

Race Car Craft Supplies
Supplies! πŸš₯
  • Toilet paper rolls. (We also used paper towel rolls to cut out the wheels, but you can use an old cereal box for wheels too.)
  • Acrylic paint. (You can also use sharpies if you rather skip the paint.)
  • Paint Brushes
  • Thumbtacks or brands. (You can also staple or tape the wheels if you don’t care about them moving.)
  • Bowls or cups for brushes
  • A plate (to dry the race cars)
  • Paper towels (to wipe off brushes)
  • ***Optional*** String to pull the cars if you’re like us and can’t cut in perfect circles. πŸ˜‚
Race Car Craft Start
Cut out the seat.

To Begin:

  1. To start, cut a hole in the roll and fold a seat. You can be creative with this, making it as big or small as you want. We even had a “Formula 1” style car with the seat all the way in the back! 🏎

2. Time to paint your car! Lost for ideas? Google some famous race cars for inspiration. You can make this as simple or as complicated as you want.

Race Car Craft Drying
Drying out!

3. While your car is drying, it’s time to cut your wheels out. If you’re struggling with the roll, we also suggest using an old cereal box. If you want perfect wheels so the car will roll, use a pencil to make a circle.

4. Paint your wheels! We got creative with this too. ⚫️

Make sure that it completely dries!

5. Let everything dry now. You can use a hairdryer on a low setting to speed the process along.

Race Car Craft Wheels
Attaching the wheels.

6. Use a thumbtack or brand to fix your wheels to the car. If you do not care about the wheels moving, you can staple or tape the wheels to the car.

7. Go enjoy that car! We attached string so we could “race” them. 😊

We hope you manage better than us! We would love to see what your community comes up with. Please share/tag/email us your creations! 🏁

Kazoos
Final craft!
  1. Gather your rubber band, wax paper, markers or paint and toilet paper roll for some kazoo fun.
  2. Decorate your roll how you wish. Some of us colored a coloring sheet and wrapped it around the roll instead of free painting.
  3. Next, cut the wax paper small enough to fit over the opening of one end of the roll.
  4. Fold the wax paper over and secure with the rubber band. (Shown in the image to the right.)
  5. Finally, poke holes in the paper with toothpicks so you can have that classic kazoo sound! 🎀

We recorded ourselves playing a cannon rendition of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” for your viewing pleasure. We hope the video sparks creativity with you and your community! πŸ˜‚

Tissue Paper Flowers

Learn to make these tissue paper flowers with your residents!

You Will Need:

  • Tissue Paper (Assorted Colors)
  • Stapler
  • Scissors
  • Skewers
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Vase

To Begin:

  1. Start with a single sheet of tissue paper. Cut this sheet of paper into at least 4 sections of equal length and width.
  2. Neatly stack your small sheets of tissue paper one on top of the other.
  3. Fold the shortest side about an inch to two inches in. Accordion fold the tissue paper.
  4. Depending on how large you want your flower you can either cut the paper in half (as shown in the video), leave it as-is, or trim it to make it the perfect size.
  5. Once your accordion paper is the perfect length, you’ll want to staple it in the middle.
  6. Using your scissors, round the edges of the paper, make them pointy, or even shred the ends. (example below)

7. Begin separating the sheets of tissue paper and ruffling up the petals of your flower.

8. Next, grab a skewer. Using your hot glue gun, add a dab of glue to the sharp end. Stick this end at the bottom of your flower. (I also recommend using green plant tape to wrap around the skewer to make it look like an actual stem.)

9. With your vase handy, fill with flowers! If your vase is transparent try adding rocks, marbles, or even a brown paper bag to hide the stems.

10. You’re Finished! Decorate your countertops with vases of flowers from your residents!

  • Cotton Balls
  • White Foam Sheet

  1. Start by cutting out two circles from your white foam sheet. You can do this by folding your foam sheet in half, tracing and cutting out a circle.
  2. Layout your pipe cleaners in order from red, to orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. Add a line of hot glue to one of your foam circles, and lay your pipe cleaners in the glue. Allow a few seconds to dry.
  3. Next, curve your pipe cleaners to make an upside-down U-shape.
  4. Trim any excess pipe cleaners with your scissors.
  5. Add another line of glue to the other foam circle and lay the other end of the pipe cleaners in it. Allow a few seconds to dry.
  6. Next, add dots of glue all over the foam circles – cover in cotton balls.

Sharpie Coasters

Sharpie coasters are a fun and colorful way to brighten up any space. 🎨

You will need:

To Begin:

  1. Start by prepping your area: Lay down napkins to lay your tile on and clean your tile of any debris.
Lay down paper towels and clean tile.

2. Using an array of colors or a select few, freely and randomly color your tile with Sharpie.

3. By carefully using your straw, dip the end into the 91% Isopropyl Alcohol. Allow the alcohol drips to randomly drip onto your colorful tile canvas. But careful — too much and all of your color will run together and off the tile! I like to take my time with this process and allow the spots to dry before adding more. Get creative with it! Use your straw to even blow the color around before it dries!

4. If you’re like me and only have regular Sharpies to experiment with, a can of Krylon Clear Glaze (available at Wal-mart) will seal your tiles without a problem! Allow a few hours for the Sharpie to dry then spray your tile with the clear glaze finish. Your Sharpie Coasters will be ready to use in no time!

Mardi Gras Coasters

You Will Need:

  • Self-adhesive glitter foam sheets
  • Beaded Necklaces
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Scissors

To Begin:

  1. Begin with a sheet of self-adhesive foam. Fold it in half, then trace a circle on the outside of the sheet.
  2. With your paper folded in half, follow and cut along the circle you just traced with your scissors. You should have two equal-sized circles.
  3. Peel back the paper on the back of the self-adhesive foam circles. Collapse sticky sides together as evenly as possible. (It doesn’t have to be perfect – we’ll trim the excess later!)
  4. Grab your beaded necklace and cut the necklace open to where it’s one long strand.
  5. With your hot glue gun heated up and ready to go, add a dab of glue to the center of your foam sheet. Grab an end of your beaded necklace and place it into the glue.
  6. Continue adding more glue and wrapping the necklace around itself in circles. You should be left with a nice looking coaster with just a little too much foam. You’ll want to trim this excess off.
  7. You’re done! Celebrate Mardi Gras in style!
