Tissue Paper Flowers

Learn to make these tissue paper flowers with your residents!

You Will Need:

  • Tissue Paper (Assorted Colors)
  • Stapler
  • Scissors
  • Skewers
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Vase

To Begin:

  1. Start with a single sheet of tissue paper. Cut this sheet of paper into at least 4 sections of equal length and width.
  2. Neatly stack your small sheets of tissue paper one on top of the other.
  3. Fold the shortest side about an inch to two inches in. Accordion fold the tissue paper.
  4. Depending on how large you want your flower you can either cut the paper in half (as shown in the video), leave it as-is, or trim it to make it the perfect size.
  5. Once your accordion paper is the perfect length, you’ll want to staple it in the middle.
  6. Using your scissors, round the edges of the paper, make them pointy, or even shred the ends. (example below)

7. Begin separating the sheets of tissue paper and ruffling up the petals of your flower.

8. Next, grab a skewer. Using your hot glue gun, add a dab of glue to the sharp end. Stick this end at the bottom of your flower. (I also recommend using green plant tape to wrap around the skewer to make it look like an actual stem.)

9. With your vase handy, fill with flowers! If your vase is transparent try adding rocks, marbles, or even a brown paper bag to hide the stems.

10. You’re Finished! Decorate your countertops with vases of flowers from your residents!

Make Slime!

Playing with slime is a sensory play activity allowing adults and children to utilize and understand all five senses. 👁👃👂👅🖐

So when several senses are stimulated at once, creativity and learning are built through this exploration. Also, sensory play also encourages development of coordination and fine motor skills. Making your own slime is easy – we recommend making some with all of your residents! 😊

You Will Need:

  • Elmer’s Slime Kit (available at Walmart)
    • This will include Glitter Glue and “Magic Solution”
  • Extra Glitter ✨
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Stirring Stick

To Begin:

  1. Begin by dumping the entire bottle of glitter glue into your mixing bowl.
  2. Next, add extra glitter if you wish (who doesn’t want extra glitter though.) ✨ Stir your concoction throughly.
  3. Now add the “Magic Solution.” If you can’t find the slime kit with the included “magic solution”, contact cleaning solution works just the same!
  4. Mix it well again.
  5. Know that it will need 5-10 minutes to set – it’ll be extremely sticky and hard to manipulate if you try to play with it right away.
  6. Store your slime in a small Ziploc container or bag to enjoy at any moment!

Mardi Gras Coasters

You Will Need:

  • Self-adhesive glitter foam sheets
  • Beaded Necklaces
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Scissors

To Begin:

  1. Begin with a sheet of self-adhesive foam. Fold it in half, then trace a circle on the outside of the sheet.
  2. With your paper folded in half, follow and cut along the circle you just traced with your scissors. You should have two equal-sized circles.
  3. Peel back the paper on the back of the self-adhesive foam circles. Collapse sticky sides together as evenly as possible. (It doesn’t have to be perfect – we’ll trim the excess later!)
  4. Grab your beaded necklace and cut the necklace open to where it’s one long strand.
  5. With your hot glue gun heated up and ready to go, add a dab of glue to the center of your foam sheet. Grab an end of your beaded necklace and place it into the glue.
  6. Continue adding more glue and wrapping the necklace around itself in circles. You should be left with a nice looking coaster with just a little too much foam. You’ll want to trim this excess off.
  7. You’re done! Celebrate Mardi Gras in style!
