Cute but spooky – that has been our theme here at Corwin for Halloween. We are just not into scary as much as we normally are after the year we have had. Granted, we say this, and one of our theme days at the office is “Classic Horror Movies.” ?

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a good scare or catching your favorite horror flick. A study published in the Journal of Media Psychology found that people watch scary movies for three main reasons: tension, relevance and unrealism. Others who are drawn to it due to “relevance” find elements in the movie that they can relate to. Those who like horror due to its “unrealism” enjoy it because they know for a fact that it’s all fake anyway. For them (read half of the Corwin staff as well), it’s just pure entertainment. For the “tension,” it can be about releasing the fear after the scare. That rush of adrenaline without having to do anything strenuous can be fun!
